Yeah, Sculptris is good enough to make a sculpt like this, all the basic tools you need is all there. And the turn around part, it was imported and rendered in Maya. I learned quite a lot with this sculpt, though I don't have much experience in sculpting. In fact this is just one of the very few sculpt I ever did. I'd say it would be easier if you have good experience in drawings, it's more or less applies to sculpting, at least in my case.
Hmm, Zbrush are only specialized for digital sculpting in mind. For animation, you better look up for softwares such as Maya, Modo, Blender etc. The way of animating are basically the same, just rigging part is tricky to setup, and varies by different packages, I think Maya are pretty decent on those tools.
